TCIFMAF honored Legendary Miami Casting Director, Ellen Jacoby with the 2022
Lifetime Achievement Award
There isn’t a movie-goer around the world whose image of South Beach isn’t the bikini-clad women, roller skaters and pretty people of “The Birdcage”, or the zany-ness of Jim Carrey’s “Ace Ventura” as he makes his way around South Florida or the unusual charisma of “There’s Something About Mary” as it became an instant cult “classic"... or the vision of a space shuttle launch in “Contact” at Cape Canaveral or carrier jets taking off from the 7-mile bridge in the Keys in “True Lies.” And, all of these were Ellen Jacoby-cast feature films.
Having worked with a who’s who of Hollywood directors, including Steven Soderbergh, Joel Schumacher, Sidney Pollack, The Farrelly Bros., Bob Zemekis, Ron Howard, Mike Nicols, Michael Bay, Randa Haines, Tom Shadyac, Martin Scorsese, Tim Burton, Garry Marshall, John Landis, James Cameron, Joe Roth, Mira Nair and Tony Scott, Ellen Jacoby is one name that Hollywood keeps at the tip of its tongues, and at the top of its address book. As the founder, and President, of Ellen Jacoby Casting International, a casting office with separate film, television, commercial and Hispanic divisions, Ellen has employed over 300,000 Florida actors, dancers, and performers through the years.
Two-time Academy Award nominee Carol Connors honored with the 2022 TCIFMAF Visionary Award
Few American singer-songwriters have influenced the American songbook like Carol Connors. Her songs have touched millions of listeners across the globe since she first appeared on the music scene with her debut vocal recording with The Teddybears, To Know Him Is to Love Him, a song that became the #1 record in the world for six weeks, and still holds world records having sold nearly two million copies.
Connors became one of the female pioneers of music for film and TV in an industry dominated by men. She has been nominated twice for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, including the theme song Gonna Fly Now from Rocky and Disney’s The Rescuers, as well as being nominated for five Emmys, one Grammy, and two Golden Globe Awards.

She built a niche for herself in the music world and hasn’t slowed down one bit. Later this year, she will be seen in the Showtime documentary Spector and has completed a feature documentary about her own career, her music, and her love life (which included icons such as Elvis Presley, Robert Culp, and David Janssen), and her working relationships with Phil Spector and Carroll Shelby.
Carol Connors also be participated in a special seminar during this year’s TCIFMAF on Women in Music & Film, where she shared her incredible, personal stories and songs in a rare performance and Q&A session.
